The Torah is Coming!

We took a trip to the synagogue to visit the Torah.
Jade: OH! I see the letters! Look it's the letters that are on our Torahs.

Rabbi Greenberg: What do you think is in here?
Kids: The Torah!
The children were so excited to kiss the Torah.
The children "harvested' their mitzvah plums and created their own Torahs,
full of mitzvahs they have done.
Rowen: Getting the Torah is such a big holiday.
Colette: Hashem wants us to be our best selves.
Maya: He gave us the Torah.
Lochlan: So we can be kind.
Matan: It is special.

"It's Mt. Sinai!"
"It's a Torah."

"Humble Mt. Sinai was so polite,
he knew it was wrong to brag and to fight."
We know that Mt. Sinai was
Lochlan: Humble.
Miles: Kind.
Carson: Brave.
Morah Katie: How did it make Mt. Sinai feel when he heard the other mountains arguing and boasting?
Jade: Sad.
Morah Katie: When he heard them speaking that way, what did he choose to do?
Lakshmi: He chose not to speak to like that.
Morah Katie: Why did Hashem choose to give us the Torah on Mt Sinai?
Lochlan: He wasn't bragging.
Colette: He was humble.
Emily: Because he wasn't fighting.
Morah Katie: If you were one of the mountains, how can you speak proudly about your special qualities, and speak thoughtfully and kind towards others?
Thoughtful Tall Mountain:
Carson: Come look at the view from me.
Aura: You can climb on me anytime to see the views.
Thoughtful Volcano:
Eli: The lava is too hot! Be careful.
Lochlan: You can walk on the new land I am making.
Thoughtful Grassy Mountain:
Miles: Enjoy the fresh air on me.
Maia: Come have a picnic on me.
Thoughtful Waterfall Mountain:
Lochlan: You can swim in the pools of my waterfalls.
Jade: You can come ride in a kayak down my waterfalls.
Thoughtful Rocky Mountain:
Lochlan: Come zipline on me.
Miles: Come climb on me.
Thoughtful Snowy Mountain:
Evan: You can come ski down my snow.
Thoughtful Tree Mountain:
Ozzie: Come climb on my trees.
Thoughtful Flower Mountain:
Colette: You can come smell my flowers.
Lakshmi:  Would you like to come climb on me and see all my flowers?
Thoughtful Glacier:
Colette: You can ice skate on my ice.
Moshe: You can have fun on me.

We are up to day 34 in our 49 day countdown!
Morah Katie: What are we counting up to?
Matan: How many days 'til we get the Torah.
Morah Katie: Why did Hashem give us the Torah?
Miles: Because He was so great!
Maya: Because He wants us to be kind.
Colette: To be great selves.
Emily: Cause He loves all of us people.
Morah Katie: How will the Torah help us to be our best selves?
Moshe: Mitzvahs.
Matan: It teaches you how to do the mitzvahs.
Rowen: He loves us and wants us to learn the aleph-bet.
Lochlan: The Torah helps us.
Maya: We just learn to be kind.
Ozzie: I just love the Torah. It has the mitzvahs. Helping is a good deed. Giving tzedakah is a good deed.
Morah Katie: Both of those are good deeds. When we do them we are being our best selves.
We decided to write down things we do at The Gan to help us be our best selves.
Kind Words
Miles: Nice game Carson.
Carson: Thanks Miles.
Rowen: You make the letters good Maya.
Maya: Well... I'm trying. I don't really know my Hebrew letters.
Rowen: Yeah but we are learning.
 Respectful Words
The boys had a respectful disagreement about meteors and asteroids.
They discovered they could disagree without causing bad feelings.
 Help Others
Ozzie helped Eli clean up a spill.
Emily and Lakshmi worked together to clean up paper scraps.
Be Kind
(too quick to be photographed)
Colette was walking with a tire and fell. Jade quickly went to her,
asked if she was ok and helped her up.
Evan sat next to Rowen when she was feeling lonely.

Invite friends to play/Include friends
Lots of friends worked together to accomplish the savanna puzzle.
Lochlan: Let's try it today.
Carson: Yeah I really want to put it together.
Miles: It's pretty big.
Maya: I like puzzles, can I help?
Aura: Can I help?
When everyone worked together, a big goal was achieved.
