Our Journey into Space

Morah Katie: Tell me what you know about Space?
Natan: Astronauts.
Abigail: Planets.
Sroli: The Sun.
Amelia: There are stars.
Ari: Astronauts eat special food.
Natan: Rockets go into Space.
Abigail: Earth.
Morah Katie: You already know a lot about space. Over the next few weeks we are going to learn more about the moon, stars and the planets. Let me ask you, can you reach up and grab a planet?
Abigail: NO. 
Morah Katie: Space is a big topic, to learn more we will be using books, and we will need to use our imaginations. Are you ready?
Kids: YES!
Sroli: We are playing with the astronaut guys.
Ari: The rockets are blasting the shuttle into space.
Ari and Sroli: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 BLAST OFF!
Matan: This guy.
Morah Katie: He is an astronaut.
Matan: Astronaut. Rockets go.

Morah Katie: What can you see when you look up into the day sky?
Evan: Clouds.
Abigail: The  sun.
Olivia: Blue.
Morah Katie: What do you see when you look up into the night sky?
Natan: The Moon.
 Sroli: Stars.
Abigail: Fireworks.
Natan: You can see bats at night.
Evan: It's black.
We found stars hidden in our apples and pears at snack.
Sroli: The apple star is bigger than the pear star. Bananas have really small stars.
We used an apple and a pear for star stamping.
Morah Katie: Tell me what you know about the Sun.
Judah: It has a lot of energy.
Evan: It is bright.
Abigail: The fog hides it.
Sroli: It warms us up.
Anton: It's like a ball of fire.
Morah Katie: The sun is very hot.  When you make cookies with your mom, does she warn you not to touch the oven?
Kids: Yes!
Natan: It is so hot it can burn you.
Morah Katie: Generally when we bake cookies an oven is about 350 degrees hot. Do you think that is  less hot, as hot, or hotter than the Sun?
Kids: Not as a hot/ the sun is hot/ it's not cold.
Moran Katie: You are right, the Sun is 9941 degrees! 
Isaac: If the Sun fell from the sky, it wouldn't be good for a city. 

We used our some of our math items to show 9941.
Evan: My sun is bright.
Anton: This is the summer Sun.
Morah Stephanie: I see it is filling your blue sky.
Anton: It is really big and hot.
Clara: My sun is bright too. 
We watched the launch of the space shuttle Atlantis; 
minds and imaginations were launched.
Astronauts and rockets inspired our block play.
 Natan: This is the engine that makes it go.
Ari: I am driving the space shuttle. 
Ari: I am making a rocket ship, I need a triangle on top.
"Climb aboard the Space shuttle, we are going to the Moon.
Hurry, hurry and get ready, we are going to blast of soon.
Put on your helmet and buckle up real tight, 
Here comes the countdown, let's count with all our might:
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Blast off!"
Anton: Abigail Look! Isaac made the moon!
Judah and Natan read about the Apollo moon landing.
Morah Katie: What does lunar mean? 
Natan: It's about the moon.
Morah Katie: What planet is the astronaut looking at from the Moon?
Judah: Earth.
Natan: Earth is our planet.
